Outline
The first week of the course will be held at the Hiroshima Synchrotron Radiation Center (Hiroshima University), where lectures covering X-ray techniques will be given including a visit and/or hands-on training at the beam lines. The second week will be held at the Japanese Proton Accelerator Research Center (J-PARC) facility, where neutron scattering and muon spin rotation/relaxation techniques will be introduced in junction with a visit of the spallation source and hands-on training. Lectures will be given by well-known scientists recognized in their fields with a mix between young and well-established lecturers. This is intended to close the gap between young and old, typically found at PhD schools and motivate participants to actively exchange with lecturers about techniques, career advice and possible collaborations. An important aspect of the MIRAI PhD school will be the transfer of scientific soft-skills in general and to foster networking of the future generation in particular.
Lectures will focus on delivering scientific literacy of each technique and try to incorporate pre-submitted questions from participants.
