01 FACILITY Research Facility Transforming Science into Benefits for Society

The Research Institute for Synchrotron Radiation Research (HiSOR) is a research facility established within a national university for the advancement of science and technology, also to nurture and develop future talent. Built on a strong record of scientific achievement, it was founded in 1986 as a distinctive research center known for its ability to manage the full research system and for its flexibility in both education and research. Along with carrying out leading research and training specialists, the institute is strongly committed to outreach activities that connect with the local community, teachers, students, and parents. This page presents some of these efforts.

02 EXPERIENCE Experience the World of Science

At the center of the facility is a synchrotron accelerator, surrounded by precision optical and electronic instruments. The scene is like a “science safari park,” and visiting children often watch with sparkling eyes and express their amazement. We value this excitement and, through engaging demonstration experiments and easy-to-understand explanations, provide experiences that help them discover that science is fun! For visitors coming for training purposes, we also offer hands-on programs, including mock lessons and specialized science experiments.

04 ATTEMPT Our Commitment to SDGs

As a promotion partner for "Higashi-Hiroshima: SDGs Future City," we collaborate with local organizations and residents to build a sustainable society. As part of these efforts, we conduct activities that link food loss reduction with support for student life. We deliver donated rice, preserved foods, and daily necessities from the community to local and international students dedicated to their research. In return, the students provide messages of gratitude and participate in our outreach initiatives, fostering a cycle of support and engagement within the local community.
